Dance, Dance, Absolution (2022) is the first in a series of works that centres corporeality, each work taking a specific facet of what it is like to live as a perpetually emergent body, and stretching, deconstructing and re-contextualizing it.

A 1.30 square metre aluminium plate serves as a platform for the spectator. This platform is connected by four 2 metre-long beams to a contraption on which a screen and two speakers are positioned. The screen portrays a figure in motion, cycling through forms reminiscent of traditional ballet. As the spectator moves and imitates the figure, they can see their own shape reflected against its shape, while disjointed music and sound accompanies both in their movement.

Additional help for the design and production of the physical installation was provided by Jeroen Molenaar, and additional programming by Vincent Boon.Violin as heard throughout &nbsp;the installation was played by Christine Cornwell.Dance, Dance, Absolution has received financial support from Gemeente Rotterdam and Fonds Podiumkunsten.

Past shows:The New Current 2023 (Brutus, Rotterdam, NL), Gaudeamus Festival 2022 (Tivoli Vredenburg, Utrecht, NL), No Man’s Land 2022 (Tivoli Vredenburg, Utrecht, NL), and GRAW 2022 (IJzerblok, Rotterdam, NL)

Proxy-choreography is a series of works that centres corporeality, each work taking a specific facet of what it is like to live as a perpetually emergent body, and stretching, deconstructing and re-contextualizing it.

Exfoliate (2025)How do we perceive the movement of others?

<img width="2420" height="1365" width_o="2420" height_o="1365" src_o="https://cortex.persona.co/t/original/i/030aa90d58c75b984ed6046fb7a72ea6f6104b6062658cc9d968ad26ace7f6bf/Proxy-choreography-picture-one.jpg" data-mid="1432317" border="0" data-scale="65"/>Proxy-choreography: exfoliate inquires how experiences of corporeality and movement can transcend the confinements of the physical body. It explores kinesthetic and corporeal awareness through sound and smell alone. The spectator is presented with sixteen speakers, through which sound constructs the illusion of a dancer's movements. Interspersed with this soundscape is a scent inspired by the sweat of this dancer. The scent reconstructs the olfactory trace of motion, intimacy, and exertion using natural and synthetic molecules of musks, herbs and human skin.
concept and sound; Ruben Kotkamp, perfume; Cesar Majorana, dancer; Lukas Karvelis, financial support from StimuleringsfondsPast shows: Wild Summer of Art 2025 (Brutus, Rotterdam, NL), Hubert x Sinus: Space in Sound 2026 (Hubert, Nijmegen, NL)

Dance, Dance, Absolution (2022)

is the first in a series of works that centres corporeality, each work taking a specific facet of what it is like to live as a perpetually emergent body, and stretching, deconstructing and re-contextualizing it.

A 1.30 square metre aluminium plate serves as a platform for the spectator. This platform is connected by four 2 metre-long beams to a contraption on which a screen and two speakers are positioned. The screen portrays a figure in motion, cycling through forms reminiscent of traditional ballet. As the spectator moves and imitates the figure, they can see their own shape reflected against its shape, while disjointed music and sound accompanies both in their movement.

composition, design, programming, concept; Ruben Kotkamp, additional design and production; Jeroen Molenaar, additional programming; Vincent Boon, violin; Christine Cornwell,&nbsp;financial support from Gemeente Rotterdam and Fonds Podiumkunsten.
